I shall consider how English, the 21st century global communicator, can embrace both national artistic cultures and global human issues to become truly meaningful and inclusive to those that use it primarily as a pragmatic tool. Departing from the concept of art as a multi-level language acquisition tool, I shall suggest that art – discussed in English – is the medium to confront and express global concerns and individual cultures. If teaching English be an art, let art help us teach it; if fostering global empathy is our aim, let art help us visualize and express cultural diversity while also fine-tuning learners’ critical thinking skills. I look forward to sharing my ideas with you at the ETAS Online Conference 2022!
