Open Position in Zurich Oberland, 8610 Uster

Part time assignment at new start-up school in Zurich Oberland

Part-time position - Starting in January 2019

Townsquare English lessons is new in Uster and originally set up to provide for small groups or one-to-one lessons for levels A2 and B1. As inquiries keep coming in for tutoring other levels and conversation lessons, another experienced English teacher would be an ideal addition to the team. As opposed to employment, Townsquare represents a new form of cooperation between language teachers. We are instructors joining efforts in terms of web performance and the use of infrastructure in Uster in order to keep our fixed costs at a minimum. This means we are represented jointly on but we are independent language teachers. The concept provides that a teacher is free in terms of lesson planning, course objectives and fee collection but as with a private teacher has an independent status in terms of tax filing (Swiss citizenship required). Comparable with joint practices known in health care, where independent professionals share premises, the teacher model will allow exchange of experiences within the team, use of the classroom infrastructure (with the option to store items), choice of time schedule and advertising support. For your benefits you will pay a reasonable usage fee in line with your agreed lesson schedule.
This model is not ideal for teachers not keen on setting up their own semester terms or collecting student fees. You need to be comfortable with planning and class forming, entry tests, allocation of students to appropriate levels, pre-lesson communication with students to organize your class schedule and advertise your own lessons (other than through our website). In short you need to cope with all the tasks a private teacher does.
If this is no issue, you will enjoy being able to use your creative skills extensively and to plan your lessons in accordance with your private schedule. If you wish you can also obtain support in terms of administrative issues or templates. The classroom, ideal for up to five students, is small and convenient offering a very pleasant learning environment much appreciated by current classes. It is located on the first floor of a historic brick house reminding of an English townhouse.

New team members will be carefully selected since the reputation of Townsquare will depend on the teachers’ competencies. We are looking for native speakers with a passion for teaching who are class-sensitive and able to identify student needs. Blended learning is a technique Townsquare stands for. You are interested in applying modern learning techniques as opposed to pure course book methods. Tutors experienced with teaching small groups will be prioritized over those used to teaching large classes only. Another less important but ideal premise is living in the vicinity of Uster.

Does this sound interesting to you? If it is just what you have been looking for, it would be a great pleasure getting to know you. Please call 044 948 02 38 or email to
