English Teacher at 100% (4 months assignment)

Full-time position - Starting in June 2020

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is an ecumenical fellowship of churches founded in 1948.  It brings together 350 member churches from all over the world, including Orthodox churches, Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran and Reformed denominations, to promote Christian unity in faith, witness and service for a just and peaceful world.

The Ecumenical Institute (EI) at the Château de Bossey is fulfilling its mission of ecumenical theological formation and education. With its holistic way of education - which combines academic research, cross-cultural learning through life in community, spiritual experience, exposure to and encounter with other faith communities, the Ecumenical Institute continues to have a special place and vocation in ecumenical formation today.

The EI is delivering Complementary Certificate (CC) in Ecumenical Studies, Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Ecumenical Studies, and Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Ecumenical Studies and is attached to the University of Geneva. It is currently looking for an English Teacher at 100% for “English as a Tool for Ecumenical Formation: Intensive English Summer Course” taking place from mid-June until the beginning of the autumn semester early September, to enhance the English language proficiency of those students needing to improve their English language skills before the beginning of the academic year 2020/2021.

In particular, the English Teacher will have to:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to up to 15 students of the Ecumenical Institute;
  • Prepare and set tests, including a baseline assessment test at the beginning of the course;
  • Organise study visits as part of the course, and for community building, according to an agreement with the Academic Dean;
  • Any other responsibilities as requested by the Academic Dean or Director.

  • Preferably university degree (Bachelor or Master) in English language, history or literature.
  • First-language English speakers and non-first-language speakers who have studied or studying and have a good command of the language.
  • Having a Certificate to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages would be an asset (CELTA / DELTA or equivalent).

Language skills:

Knowledge of other languages (Spanish, French and German) is an asset.

Computer skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.



At least 3 years of experience especially in teaching English as a second language.
