Where teachers meet and learn

Bern - 7 November - ELT Springboard

We're a friendly discussion and networking group of ETAS members and non-members that meets after work on the first Wednesday of every month. There is no charge for the event (just buy a drink at the restaurant) and there are no prerequisites--teachers of all languages and at all experience levels are welcome to come!

This month's topic: motivating (and keeping) your students

As a teacher at a private language school, your livelihood probably depends on you getting and keeping students. Even at a public school, having properly motivated students during a term makes a teacher’s job –at the very least– easier.

But what can teachers do to make sure promising new students are coming in, and what factors then contribute to successful development and upkeep of learner engagement?

This topic is particularly interesting for us because of its intertwining with the pedagogy of language education. Furthermore, the hard reality is, many language teachers are often doubling as customer service managers. If you take the position that we shouldn’t simply cater to what learners want, surely you agree that we must succeed at managing expectations. So how do we do it?

Come join us on Wednesday, November 7th, at 8pm at the Tibits Restaurant on Gurtengasse (next to the train station, not in the station), for lively discussion, networking, and a step forwards in your professional life! Please visit the ELT Springboard blog for more information and to RSVP!
