The Hands Up Project, the teacher 2 teacher (t2t) recipient from January 2026 to January 2028
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all those who voted the Hands Up Project as the next t2t recipient at the ETAS Annual Conference in Tenero, Ticino. The previous recipient, The Saida Children’s Charity Project in Kenya, was very well supported by our wonderful ETAS members and we hope that your support will
continue for the Hands Up Project Cairo space.
The Hands Up Project was founded in 2016 by Nick Bilbrough when he returned from teaching English in Palestine, but continued teaching Palestinian children
online. The charity has grown and has positively influenced many young Palestinians since its humble beginnings.
The Cairo space was initially donated to the Hands Up Project in 2024 with a few months of the apartment rent paid by the donor. The Hands Up Project has had to raise the money for the rent thereafter and that is what ETAS are helping with.
The Cairo Space
The apartment has a common living room, three classrooms and serves 40 students. The students are divided into two groups and each group attends classes on alternate days over a six-day period with Fridays off. Classes offered include Arabic and English languages, mathematics, art therapy and music therapy to name but a few.
The vision of the Cairo space facilitators is to create a generation of confident, hopeful and globally-minded children who can rebuild their communities and inspire change.
The mission of the school is to provide essential education to displaced Palestinian children in a safe space where they can learn, heal and grow, empowering them academically, emotionally and socially.
These young refugees do not have the right to attend the local schools in Cairo and thus are not only stranded in a strange land but are also disadvantaged by the lack of educational opportunities which will have repercussions as they grow into adulthood.
Thank you for your invaluable support.
