Cambridge Assessment English

Cambridge English Examinations Geneva & Vaud West, the authorised Cambridge Assessment English Exams Centre and provider of Cambridge English qualifications in Geneva, Lausanne and Neuchâtel.

Here are the key dates for registration in the exam in Geneva & Vaud West.

They have a basic or flex registration.  The basic one is a lower exam fee but more restricted. The flex one has more options, including exam retake, date changing, computer-based testing, late registration and more.

C2 Proficiency (CPE)

C2 Proficiency (CPE) is an official high-level Cambridge English qualification, requiring proficient competence in all the language skills, set at C2 level, the highest level of the Council of Europe's Common Framework of Reference for Languages.

Upcoming exams:

C2 Proficiency (CPE) is used:

  • as entry or school-leaving exam at higher educational levels (Gymnasium, higher education such as Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences, Pädagogische Hochschulen, etc.). Successful candidates can study demanding subjects at the highest levels, including post-graduate and PhD programmes.
  • as a measure of proficiency for entry into university courses globally.
  • in the corporate sector.

Due to its level of difficulty, holding a C2 Proficiency (CPE) qualification is an exceptional achievement for non-native speakers of English.

C1 Advanced (Cambridge CAE)

Certificate in Advanced English

The Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English (CAE) is an English language qualification demonstrating a person’s ability to communicate in English at a standard that would be expected of staff in an English-speaking or global company.

The CAE is also applicable for undergraduate study.

The CAE is set at C1 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR. The tasks in the exam require advanced-level skills in English.

Cambridge B2 First (FCE)

Cambridge B2 First (FCE), was formerly known as the “First Certificate”. It is the most widely taken Cambridge English exam in Switzerland. It is used:

  • - at almost all education al levels, from secondary school to universities of applied science as a school-leaving exam;
  • - in the business sector as a reliable qualification demonstrating English skills.

The FCE is an official Cambridge English qualification at the upper intermediate level; the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR.

Exams are offered all over Switzerland; however, locations and dates may vary.

B1 Preliminary (PET)

Preliminary English Test

The Preliminary English Test (PET), sometimes known as the B1 Preliminary, assesses a person who is at a low-intermediate level of English in reading, writing, speaking and listening. It is at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR.

In Switzerland, B1 Preliminary (PET) is mainly used by:

  • - secondary school students who usually take it at the end of their third year at secondary school.
  • - teenagers and younger children usually opt for the “for Schools version” of the test.
  • - adults, mainly if they were once able to acquire beginner level English language skills during their school time or career and would like to continue learning English again.

A2 Key (KET)

Key English Test

The Key English Test, or KET, is an elementary level English language exam which shows that you have mastered the basics in English. Usually, people will use the KET to see if they have basic reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities in English. 

In Switzerland, KET is mainly used by:

  • -secondary school students at the end of the 3rd year at secondary school.
  • -in some cases, strong primary school students at the end of primary school.
  • -teenagers and younger children usually opt for the “for Schools” version of the test.
  • -adults, mainly if they have not acquired any English language skills during their school time or career.

Linguaskill (Bulats) by Cambridge Assessment

English Language Testing

This is a quick online test to help organizations check the English levels of candidates. It tests all four language skills in modules. It provides results within 48 hours and can be administered online at any time or place.

The test has four sections: listening, reading and language knowledge, writing and speaking. The test is computer-based. Your Linguaskill (Bulats) score will be out of 100. It is aligned with the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR) levels.

The Linguaskill (Bulats) is an adaptive test; therefore, there is not a set number of questions. Each question a person answers aids the computer in understanding his/her level better. The test is complete when a test taker has answered sufficient questions to identify his/her level accurately.

Since the beginning of 2020, Linguaskill Business has replaced BULATS.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

TOEFL is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enrol in English-speaking universities. The test is accepted by more than 11,000 universities and other institutions in over 150 countries.

TOEFL IBT and TOEFL iBT Home Edition – Computer based

The TOEFL iBT® Home Edition is a safe and convenient option for students who prefer to take their test at home rather than a test centre.

  • offered everywhere that TOEFL® testing is normally available
  • identical in content, format and on-screen experience to a test taken at a test centre
  • taken on your own computer at home and monitored by a human proctor online through ProctorU®
  • available 24 hours a day, 4 days a week, with appointments as early as 24 hours after you register

PTE Academic - Pearson

What is PTE Academic?

PTE Academic is a computer-based English language test for international study and immigration that is accepted globally. It is marked entirely by Artificial Intelligence.

The test assesses the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. It lasts approximately 3 hours and provides a score based on the Global Scale of English (GSE). Go here for more information about this scale.

PTE Academic scores are accepted by thousands of institutions and approved for all UK, Australian and New Zealand visa and immigration categories.

Test sessions can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance, 365 days a year.

Results are typically available within 48 hours of taking the test.
