In this issue

Thirty years is no small feat for any publication to hang around that long – obviously it’s doing something right! Three decades ago, on December 1983, the first ETAS Newsletter premiered, making this year ETAS Journal’s 30th year of publication: a time that merits celebration of the past and thoughts on the future. Three decades hence, ETAS J is still growing, and with the lessons we have learned in the archives, we are inspired to continually improve our profession and our practice by striving to present significantly not just more articles but more of the kind that are as equally entertaining and engaging as they are enlightening. Three decades hence, ETAS J’s production values remain committed to utmost quality, though with a far more defined purpose: the cultivation of an active and growing connection between our Association and the global ELT community. Thanks to various technological advancements and the expansion of the internet, our generation has been given unprecedented access into the world’s immense store of human knowledge and equally unprecedented entry into the vast online community of ELT professionals, much of which had been unavailable to our colleagues only 20 years ago. Whatever else can be said, ETAS J is enjoying a moment in the sun – right now, it is arguably smarter than it has been in years!

So it is both awesome and humbling to open this publication year and find ETAS Journal’s universe ever expanding. Consequently, readers will notice that since the last seven issues we have actively sought to expand our audience and to widen our scope to reflect our continuing interest in promoting a critical and meaningful discussion, not just among ourselves but with ELT professionals across the globe.
