Plenary Speaker: Professor John De Jong from the University of Amsterdam (sponsored by Pearson Longman testing)
Standards in language teaching and testing
Dr De Jong will speak on three different meanings of the word standard as they are relevant to testing in general and to language teaching and testing in particular.
He will deal firstly with standard conditions for test administration.
He will then discuss how to define standards of attainment. What are the goals of our learning and teaching? And how can they be operationalized in assessment?
Finally Dr De Jong will examine the third usage as in "professional standard" by mentioning some of the principles one should strive to uphold in language teaching and testing.
Change to Workshop B10
Shaun Wilden has unfortunately had to cancel his workshop, so Jo Watson will now be giving a workshop on Pronunciation as B10:
This workshop is designed to dispel the myth that use of the phonemic chart is more complicated than it is worth. It is a 'hands on' workshop designed to provide participants with ideas they can adapt to their own situations in the workplace. The methodology includes TPR, pair work and group work. Along the way, hopefully, there will be fun!
