Ceres has spent most of her professional life in the academe, with more than 25 years' experience in teaching, research publication, and administration.

Before leaving the Philippines for Germany at the end of 2002, Ceres was Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of English and Literature at Silliman University in the Philippines. This academic career took her to India, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan as Visiting Professor of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. In addition to teaching, she also served for 12 years as the Editor and Chair of the Editorial Board of Silliman Journal, the official publication of Silliman University. She counts among her achievements the transformation of this 56-year-old publication into an international, full-peer reviewed, scholarly journal. She moved to Switzerland in January 2008 and joined ETAS in the same year as a member of the ETAS Editorial Board. While teaching English at HMZ in Baar, she had a year's stint as Newsletter Editor and Chair of Publication of the Zug International Women's Club.
